Malaysia National Day

I always wanted a S.A Bulldog in 1/48 scale. My dreams came true with this wonderful release by Heritage Aviation in the U.K. This kit is a gem with lovely casting and straightforward building.

The model was depicted based on the Bulldogs used by the Royal Malaysian Air Force Flying Training School in Alor Setar Kedah Malaysia. Malaysia flew the bulldogs in the late seventies till the early eighties. They took over from the Percival Provost and were faced out to the Pilatus PC-7 in 1984. Few examples were used for senior officers to keep flying hours current and towards the University Air Wing program. They were eventually fully phased out in the nineties and carried on life with the Kedah State Flying Club.

The kit was full resin and I did some enhancement with belts and the overhead canopy release. Decals were custom made by Sonny Jumpo and the national insignias were from the Tutor in 1/48 scale. Thomas Ng assisted me with one of the square markings as I was short. This was built in early 2011 and serves as a memory from my childhood as I was very close to these aircraft while growing up as my dad was teaching pilots to fly with the Royal Malaysian Air Force at that point in time.

Happy Merdeka Day 2011
