Hello ARC!  This is my rendition of the classic Monogram A-1H Skyraider.

The base is a wooden plaque, with balsa wood cut and painted to represent the deck of the USS Hancock circa 1965.  I added a True details weapons pylon set, and assorted bombs from a Hasegawa weapons set.  The decals I generated on the computer, then printed them on my home computer.   After applying decals, I airbrushed a coat of MM Acryl Clear Flat, gave it a wash using brown and black water colors, and grunged the fuselage up using soft pastels, followed by another coat of clear flat.

This particular model represents a plane that my buddy's uncle flew while deployed to Vietnam back in 1965.   He was actually mentioned by name on page 16 of Osprey's A-1 Skyraider Units of the Vietnam War.  LT(jg) Scott Wilkes was assigned to VA-215 Barn Owls.  On one particular mission, his airplane took a lot of enemy fire but he managed to nurse it out of the AO and bailed out over Laos.  Fortunately, he was picked up by friendly forces and was able to get back into the fight.  I managed to research, find and recreate unit specific markings, and I have the correct BuNo, but I was only able to speculate the nose number by process of illumination.  End result is a little bit of history in 1/48 scale.

CHEERS!
