India Republic Day

MiG 23 MF Indian Air Force

After lying assembled and unpainted for almost 6 years , I finally decided enough is enough and finished this kit. It's an Academy 1/72 MiG 23 kit which is converted to resembled MiG 23 MF flown by Indian Air Force. A very basic kit but good enough if you need to have MiG 23 kit in your collection.

The MiG 23 MF operated by (retired in 2001) Indian Air Force is air defence variant fitted with R29 engine and was one of the first Russian aircraft to track and engage targets.

Since the IAF has moved to all grey camouflage, I wanted to add some contrast to the scheme. I hence decided to go with target tug scheme that has high visibility orange scheme. I went with MiG 23 MF SK 419 which was based at Jamnagar AFB of the 224 Warlords Squadron. Picture reference courtesy to Philip Camp and Bharat Rakshak.

I used local acryllic colors to paint the aircraft and used Bright Spark decals for roundels and custom inkjet decal papers for aircraft serial numbers. Kit was painted using air brush.

Dedicating this kit for India's Republic Day 2015.
