India Republic Day

This has been my first model of the Indian Air Force. The MiG-21 has been an integral part of the IAF for over 40 years. While it's aging fleet has received a lot of bad press in the recent past due to multiple crashes, there's no denying that the unforgiving aircraft has proved her mettle in our nation's service over her lifetime. This build is a tribute to the legacy of the aircraft as well as the brave warriors who flew with her.

This was my first experience with photo-etch. I used the ACES external and the Kuivalainen cockpit detail set. I did a riveting pass to add some extra surface detail. Decals and stencils were from Begemot, serial number from spares. The model was painted using automotive lacquer paints, with oils for weathering.

The base plate was built using Plaster of Paris, and the chocks, towbar and APU were constructed from plasti-card, stretched sprue and spares. Figure added for human scale reference.

Thanks for watching. "Jai Hind!"
